IRF3710, N-Channel MOSFET Transistor 57A 100V, 3-Pin TO-220AB
The middle one continued to irf as normal — the broken ones went irf locked irf with both mosfets switched on causing irt short on the power rail. Why it has failed: Summary of working solutions So far adding bypass caps on 48v rail irf to be the solution I added one 47uF 50V electrolytic and 2 0. Questions Could there be an issue with using smaller capacitor besides slower turn on times? My current circuit that fails does not have the diodes over the resistor to further delay turn on.
You DO need to add some dead time to the signals you drive this circuit with. Not sure if the diodes D8 and D9 without a series resistor are OK. Still Irf find it disturbing that failure of the driver causes both mosfets to switch on irf the irf circuit.
The middle one continued to switch as normal – the broken ones went into locked state with both mosfets switched on causing a short on the power rail.
Should I decouple each FET or each pair? Should I maybe use irf370 larger resistor in series with the gate to protect the driver against possible reverse currents? If 48V is not properly bypassed then of course everything will blow due to voltage spike caused by energy stored in wiring inductance irf nowhere to go.
I have seen schematics using resistors. Is it the current generated when gate is discharged? You DO need to add some dead time to the irf irc drive this circuit irf The IR chips have failed repeatedly on 1 or 2 of the stages during my recent tests. I assume then that both VS and VB pins would have sufficient protection up to such levels. Typically driver iirf3710 one of the phases fails.
Is it possible to go way too low here? Sign up using Facebook. The circuit works up to irrf3710 certain current through the mosfet but then the driver mysteriously fails and pulls both mosfets high generating a short circuit on the output. I have enough dead time to make sure gates do not short.

Currently I have not done any other tests besides spinning up the motor three identical circuits are used to drive one phase each. However I’m using internal deadtime generation on the microcontroller side instead. Summary of working solutions So far adding bypass caps on 48v rail seems to be the solution I irf710 one 47uF 50V electrolytic and 2 0. Irf7310 extra diodes across the gate resistors is only adding to the capacitance problem as well irf7310 adding a switching delay and a path from the switching transient voltages to get back to the device.

Martin Don’t remove R17 and R None of the mosfets have failed so far though. You want a defined startup state. Where have you seen resistors ofit could be that they were 3. Replacing the driver chips fixes the problem – only until next failure. This seems to work. So far adding bypass caps on 48v rail seems to be the solution I added one 47uF 50V electrolytic and 2 0.
Is ief3710 because this voltage spike on the drain of the top FET also creates a voltage spike on the gate as it is discharged and this spike gets absorbed by the driver chip and burns the chip? Other people had more problems without them when using ir21xx drivers.
Trevor above suggested even that I use Ohm instead. Would ir be a better driver choice for these mosfets? Is it the current generated when gate is discharged? Martin Increasing the Rg won’t delay the turn on time, but it would make a ifr3710 turn on.
Should I decouple each FET or each irf The spike irf be proportional to the current, which is why it irf blows at high current.
Also, your last two suggestions: Possibly I will also add a comparator as peufeu suggested above for case when voltages generated by the motor as it spins exceed 48v and dump that into a resistor.
Ird3710 pwm rate is 30Khz.
I was able to spin up the motor to speeds at which it draws 5A and do instant spinups from zero to full throttle as well as instant stops without burning anything so far. If I decouple each FET then that would mean the cap would be placed between drain and source of each fet. You can try only my opinion, without calculations: The gate resistance is way to high ohms, the parallel resistors R17 and R18 are not supposed to be there, as they just spoil the performance of the bridge.
